History of Combat Engagements

for current “Angel” personnel

VESTA SYSTEM (10 years prior to Bellona)

2 S/A-81 Hornets “Gladiators” (0 lost) vs. 2 P-61 Razors (2 lost)

  • Lebrian: 2 kills (1 Slammer, BVR; 1 guns); 2 total

Brief:  Flying in the number two fighter, Lebrian, in his first combat engagement, took the initiative during the battle, killing one pirate Razor beyond visual range and another with guns.  The lead pilot was not pleased with Lebrian’s overly aggressive tactics, but Lebrian’s superiors were impressed.  Lebrian was soon after transferred to a squadron that regularly patrolled frontier systems, the “Gunslingers,” where he served with a young lieutenant named Dex D’Felco.

ORANOS SYSTEM (9 years prior to Bellona)

1 S/A-81 Hornet “Gunslingers” (0 lost) vs. 2 P-83 Lightnings (0 lost) and 4 P-61 Razors (3 lost)

  • D’Felco: 3 kills (Razors), (3 guns, 1 rear); 3 total

Brief:  During a routine patrol, D’Felco’s lead experienced engine trouble, forcing him to return to base while D’Felco continued on solo.  Soon after, D’Felco responded to a distress call from a light civilian transport under assault from half a squadron of pirate fighters.  With his missile launchers malfunctioning, D’Felco engaged the six fighters using only guns, killing three and chasing off three, enabling the transport to jump out safely during the engagement.  His bravery and gun skills earned him the call sign “Deadeye.”

ARTEMIS SYSTEM (8.5 years prior to Bellona)

2 S/A-81 Hornets “Gunslingers” (1 lost) vs. 4 P-61 Razors (3 lost)

  • D’Felco: 2 kills (1 Slammer; 1 guns); 5 total, “blood” ace*

Brief:  In an engagement that came to haunt him, D’Felco aggressively attacked a flight of four pirate fighters, killing two and becoming the Gunslingers’ first ace since the Frontier War.  His wingman was killed in the engagement, and Dex blamed his himself, feeling that his vanity caused him to press too hard, placing his wingman in unnecessary danger.

*The term “blood” ace indicates that all five kills came against manned fighters as opposed to remotely piloted craft.

APHEA SYSTEM (2 years prior to Bellona)

12 S/A-81 Hornets “Angels” (0 lost) and 1 LT-11 Raven (0 lost) vs. 4 GF-44 Marauders (4 lost)
  • D’Felco: 1 kill (Slammer); 6 total, “blood” ace
  • Lebrian: 1 kill (guns); 3 total
  • Onigen: 1 kill (Slammer); 1 total
  • Bennet: 1 kill (guns); 1 total
  • Adlerson: 0 kills; 0 total
  • Simmons: 0 kills; 0 total
  • Calgaro: 0 kills; 0 total
  • McLeod: 0 kills; 0 total
  • Valani: 0 kills; 0 total
  • Manasser: 0 kills; 0 total
  • P. Voor: 0 kills; 0 total
  • R. Voor: 0 kills; 0 total
  • Hansen (Raven)
  • St. James (Raven)

Brief:  The Angels saved the civilian heavy cruiser Forerunner from a Marauder attack, but not before the cruiser suffered critical damage.

ERATO SYSTEM (22 months prior to Bellona)

4 S/A-81 Hornets “Angels” (0 lost) and 1 LT-11 Raven (0 lost) vs. 4 GF-44 Marauders (4 lost)
  • D’Felco: 2 kills (1 Slammer; 1 guns); 8 total, “blood” ace
  • Calgaro: 1 kill (guns); 1 total
  • McLeod: 1 kill (guns); 1 total
  • Manasser: 0 kills; 0 total
  • Adlerson (Raven)
  • Simmons (Raven)

Brief:  In the first Marauder ambush against the Angels, the Raven was damaged.  Caught by surprise, the Hornets took too long confirming that the Marauders were unmanned.  The engagement led to an overhaul of the Angels’ tactics and rules of engagement.

CRAGUS SYSTEM (21 months prior to Bellona)

12 S/A-81 Hornets “Angels” (0 lost) vs. 4 GF-44 Marauders (4 lost)
  • Lebrian: 2 kills (guns); 5 total, ace
  • Adlerson: 1 kill (guns); 1 total
  • Simmons: 1 kill (guns); 1 total
  • D’Felco: 0 kills; 8 total, “blood” ace
  • Onigen: 0 kills; 1 total
  • Calgaro: 0 kills; 1 total
  • McLeod: 0 kills; 1 total
  • Bennet: 0 kills; 1 total
  • Valani: 0 kills; 0 total
  • Manasser: 0 kills; 0 total
  • P. Voor: 0 kills; 0 total
  • R. Voor: 0 kills; 0 total

Brief:  In an unorthodox mission, all twelve Hornets crammed repair parts for the Raven into their cockpits.  They accomplished this dangerous task by working in pairs—two pilots would open their canopy and take as many supplies as they could fit while the rest of the squadron covered them.  Halfway through the mission, four Marauders jumped into the system, but the squadron was saved by Lebrian’s quick response.  He scored two kills, becoming an ace.

EREBUS SYSTEM (6 months prior to Bellona)

 10 S/A-81 Hornets “Angels” (2 lost) and 1 LT-11 Raven (0 lost) vs. 4 GF-44 Marauders (3 lost)
  • D’Felco: 2 kills (Slammers); 10 total, “blood” ace, double ace
  • Lebrian: 1 kill (Slammer); 6 total, ace
  • Onigen: 0 kills; 1 total
  • Calgaro: 0 kills; 1 total
  • Bennet: 0 kills; 1 total
  • McLeod: 0 kills; 1 total
  • Valani: 0 kills; 0 total
  • Manasser: 0 kills; 0 total
  • P. Voor (Raven)
  • R. Voor (Raven)
  • Adlerson: KIA
  • Simmons: KIA

Brief:  The Angels attempted a high-risk, high-reward mission, and it cost them dearly.  From a deep space supply dump, the Raven ferried back and forth, transferring supplies to a secure location while the Hornets covered the supply dump.  Patrolling for so long in one area, the Angels were expecting to meet heavy resistance.  However, only a single flight appeared, which the Angels should have handled easily.  But miscommunication paired with a couple Hornets caught out of position led to the Marauders knifing through their defenses and killing Adlerson and Simmons.  The Angels destroyed three of the Marauders with one managing to escape.

POMONA SYSTEM (3 months prior to Bellona)

8 S/A-81 Hornets “Angels” (0 lost) and 1 LT-11 Raven (0 lost) vs. 4 GF-44 Marauders (4 lost)
  •  Onigen: 1 kill (Slammer); 2 total
  • Calgaro: 1 kill (guns); 2 total
  • Bennet: 1 kill (guns); 2 total
  • P. Voor: 0.5 kills (guns); 0.5 total
  • R. Voor: 0.5 kills (guns); 0.5 total
  • Lebrian: 0 kills; 6 total, ace
  • Valani: 0 kills; 0 total
  • Manasser: 0 kills; 0 total
  • D’Felco (Raven)
  • McLeod (Raven)

Brief:  In their first combat engagement after the Erebus debacle, the Angels encountered little difficulty.  There was one moment of tension when Manasser, looking to avenge Adlerson and Simmons, pressed the Marauders too aggressively.  He likely would have been killed if Calgaro hadn’t picked a Marauder off his tail.  Also of note: P. Voor and R. Voor teamed up for a rare split-kill, gunning down a single Marauder at precisely the same time.

VORINA SYSTEM (3 weeks prior to Bellona)

2 S/A-81 Hornets “Angels” (0 lost) vs. 4 GF-44 Marauders (4 lost)
  • D’Felco: 2 kills (1 guns; 1 Slammer); 12 total, “blood” ace, double ace
  • McLeod: 2 kills (guns); 3 total

Brief:  The Angels were again ambushed on a routine supply run by a flight of Marauders.  Flying with a cargo crate bonded to the bottom of his fighter, D’Felco—operating at reduced efficiency—still managed to kill a pair of Marauders, as did his wingman, McLeod.  D’Felco’s Hornet was badly damaged in the engagement.
